Voice strain: Voice alterations can be from overuse (are you a singer or public speaker?), or from growths on the voice box, or from improper coordination of the laryngeal cords (helped by botox) and sometimes by psychogenic causes.  See your otolaryngologist to sort this out.

Possible : It is possible to strain your vocal chords. This causes a mechanical stretching. Typically this will resolve with rest.

my voice sounds strained and speaking is a struggle for 3 months now. my neck sometimes feels tight and hurts. what could be causing this?

Vocal cord Problem: Long lasting voice strain with discomfort  suggests a vocal cord problem. This could be from a partial paralysis of one cord or a thickening (growth or polyp) on one of the vocal cords. Acid reflux, smoking or virus are the main causes. It could also come from something near the vocal cords like the thyroid gland. 
This always needs to be looked at by an ENT specialist.

after getting over a cold, i cleared my throat and coughed for two weeks. i felt hoarse and strain on my voice. i vocally rested for days, steamed, and hydrated. i still feel damage on my chords. should i see an ent?i think i popped a blood vessel.

Vocal cord strain: Yes: I suggest an ENT evaluation if you have already tried voice rest, zinc lozenges ( Cold-Eze) and warm water gargles. Black/dark brown honey ( about 1 tbsp) 3 times daily will also help.

Possibilities: It could be a combination.  Voice strain doesn't cause green mucus.  Recommend voice rest, good hydration &amp;  boil freshly sliced, peeled ginger root in water until the tea is tan. Add 3 tbsp of honey. Sip to help relieve sore throat pain and to accelerate healing of laryngitis.  *

Could be reflux: I have treated adults who develop or worsen their gastroesophageal acid reflux (ger) when exercising, especially running . If you have symptoms of ger after or during running, like heartburn, weird sensation in throat, coughing, or throat clearing, may want to try ger treatment like xantaz, Prevacid (lansoprazole) or prilosec.

Normal growth: The change in your voice is likely a normal part of your growth and normal enlargement of your larynx, voice box.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.
