Hand veins: Hand veins increase in size and disability as we age due to loss of tissue volume and increased elasticity of the skin.  Other factors such as hormones, genetics and trauma may also play a role.  Enlarging hand veins can occur at any age but seem to be most prominent from about 40 and older.

Phlebitis: inflammation of the vein, possibly due to trauma.  ice it and see if it improves.  if persistent or worsening see a doctor

Depends: Carpal tunnel syndrome is often due to repetitive motions at the wrist due to things like typing; if you are either genetically inclined or have specific activities which stress the wrist area constantly then it is possible to have an issue at your age.  Best thing to do is to be evaluated by your health care provider to make a diagnostic and treatment plan.

i have a vein that is noticeably sticking out more than usual on my right hand between my thumb and finger on the palm side of my hand. any ideas?

Hand veins  .: Hand veins can occur on either side of the hand. They are more common on the top of the hand and they usually are not a cause of worry.  If the hand vein that you describe hurts you or you do not like the way it looks, most likely it can be treated by sclerotherapy.  See a vein specialist.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without examining your husband. It may be due to intake of high salt foods and water retention. If the symptoms persist for more than a couple of days after returning to normal diet, it would be prudent  to see a doctor.

: Vein pain can be related to outside temperatures and muscle strains which should self resolve. Thrombophlebitis, chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins usually present  with symptoms of underlying diseases. If it persists, please see your doctor today as weekend is approaching. Eradicate hand veins: Prominent hand veins on the top of the hand are a common problem .  I prefer sclerotherapy for the smaller veins and , if the vein is large enough to accept a laser fiber, then i perform laser ablation of the vein just as we would do for the saphenous vein in the leg.  This procedure has minimum discomfort, minimum bruising, no downtime and excellent cosmetic results.
