Pain: Usually a broken toe will swell, bruise, painful to touch, can't move it without pain, and maybe appear misaligned.  The only way to be sure about a fracture is to get an x-ray.

Broken toe?: The most direct way to know if you have a broken toe would be to get an X-Ray of that toe.  And a broken toe does hurt a lot, and NSAIDS potentially slow down the healing of bone, so it would be wise to get to an urgent care center for an X-Ray.

Bent toe: Typically after a broken toe that is malaligned (bent in a direction that is different than straight) heals that way, it stays that way. Most often, the answer is a surgical correction of the toe. This is normally a procedure that is completed quickly and has relatively good results. Talk to a podiatrist to further answer your questions!

Get an x-ray: To know for sure, u need an x-ray.  You could also try to touch your toe with the end of a vibrating tuning fork.  I warn you, if it is broken ... It will hurt like heck.

Splint: In most cases of a non displaced fracture of a toe, tape splinting it to the next toe and using a hard-soled shoe or a doctor- dispensed trauma shoefor several weeks is all that is necessary; except for ice and elevation to reduce swelling.  If an x ray reveals a displaced fracture, then surgical reduction could be considered.
