Kidney infection?: Probably should have it checked...Could be a muscle strain but could be a kidney infection.

Go to ER:  Any non traumatic bruising in the abdomen or back area can indicate a peritoneal or retroperitoneal bleed. This is an emergency and should be treated at an ER. The vomiting may also indicate that there is some kind of intestinal involvement.

the other day i fell  and hit my lower right side by kidney area. still tender when i lay on back, slightly bruised.  hit upper buttocks too. worry?

Fell: As long as it is getting better there is nothing to worry about. If you start noting blood in the urine then you have to get this seen to or if the pain has been getting worse. Bruising is quite normal also.

i'm 25 weeks pregnant and have pkd.  for 2 days i have had kidney pain and if i press in the area they feel like they are bruised.  do i call the doc?

Pregnant, PKD CVA pa: Go to ER as soon as possible. Any burning with urinatoin?  You may have a kidney infection/stone   and need IV antibiotics, IV fluids,  . or have an issue with the placenta  or possibly even appendicitis as everything is displaced in pregnancy. or it can be early labor which shoudl be stopped if possible Go to the ER this AM

Likely musculoskelet: The kidneys are very close to the lowest ribs (floating ribs) that could have a fracture which, if is the case, will take a few weeks to resolve. Of course, cannot rule out actual kidney bruise, however, lack of blood in urine is reassuring. It may be wise to see your primary care, if you haven't, to decide if the tender site is actually related to kidney position.

Shingles: You possibly have shingles. If so, a blistery looking rash will likely develop somewhere in this area.

See a doctor soon: Without more information, it is impossible to tell what is wrong - but your child needs to see a doctor soon (within the next few days) to exclude a potentially dangerous disease. Your doctor will likely start by examining your child and repeating the blood counts to make sure that other blood cells are normal. More studies may bee needed to determine how to best help your child.

Flank pain: Usual complaint is of flank pain initially.
Also there may be blood in the urine, but this may be a small amt and would only be detected on microscopic exam.

Best to see your DR, have exam, and labs done.

Yes: Although the kidneys are protected by strong back muscles and the ribs.  It would take a severe injury to cause hemorrhage to the kidney.  Pain is likely coming from the muscles in your back.  If you blood in your urine or pain persists, see your doctor.

See professionals...: Bruise there is probably not related with kidney itself. Instead, watch for possible low platelet count. This is just a guess for your age and described condition. 

But it's most advisable to consult with an expert, but at least with you pcp.
