Potassium critical: Potassium is a very integral part of the muscle contraction process. It is also extremely sensitive to being in too high or too low a concentration. It has a rather narrow window of normal range so that any deviation above or below can cause drastic changes to the effectiveness of muscle contraction. With potassium, when it is either too high or too low muscles often become weak.

: Yes, muscular disuse atrophy can be severe and many times a short physical therapy program vs physical trainer is needed in order to ensure gradual strengthening. Start with your primary care doc, who would be able to coordinate locally.

Expect this: If the nerve coverings are the source of damage, it will take about 4 weeks, but if the central axonal core is affected, recovery speed is similar to fingernail growth, about 0.1 mm per day.  Your surgeon can help explain this process.

Adverse reaction?: Perhaps, you have an allergy or a sensitivity to coffee.  Other possibilities include reactions to flavors- if a flavored coffee, to the choice of cream or creamer, or to the choice of sweetener. (You can try to isolate by checking if there is a reaction when tasting just one of the individual ingredients and monitoring your symptoms, if this applies.)  Maybe you will need to stop drinking coffee.

Could still be: While lab testing is great at predicting disease, it isn't always confirmatory.  There is something called Seronegative (meaning labs are negative) RA and Lupus.  Generally only a rheumatologist can make this call but often you family physician can start therapy in the mean time to your evaluation.  Ibuprofen is usually where more start for pain control.

14yr old girl has pseudotumor. she gets exausted, has migrains, her muscles get weak and sore it becomes difficult to walk. many dr visits. any advice?

Evaluate: She needs to be evaluated for the possible causes of pseudo tumor. For example, overdose of vitamin a or d can lead to it, as can tetracycline use. In addition to treatment, try to evaluate the cause. I would start with a neurologist and perhaps a ct scan. You don't want to do a lumbar puncture without evaluating the contents of the head first.

: What makes you feel that your eye muscles are weak? It can be a sign of myasthenia gravis but that would require evaluation by a neurologist. It is more important to ascertain why you have muscle weakness and I recommend consulting a neurologist.

Myositis : Myositis, or muscle inflammation, may have any numbers or causes. The first place to look is whether the muscle inflammation is due to a medicine or supplements that you are taking. If that is not the case, polymyositis and dermatomyositis, are two diseases caused by a faulty immune system that causes the body's immune system to attack the muscles. I would start with your primary care physician.
