hello doctors, what does an irregular heart beat mean?

Palpitation Sx: Palpitations are an awareness of extra heartbeats which most of us have. The sensation can be single or multiple and can sometimes last minutes. Different people may feel other symptoms along with them such as dizzy, lightheaded or short of breath. The palpitations are almost always atrial or ventricular premature beats. Usually benign but they are also found with abnormal hearts.

during a physical the  tech said my son's heart beat was not as spiky as normal and the doc ordered ekg. he is 26. what does this mean?

Pvc: Every now and then we do get irregularity in our heart beat called pac's and pvc's if extra beat. We feel these things more as we are quiet and not preoccupied with other things at night. It seems your doctor was not concerned but it is always best to ask his/her opinion. If they are just the fare pvc's they are of no consequence. Sweet dreams.

Probably: Extra beats are not abnormal and everyone has them.  Your concern about them is the problem and that is likely anxiety.  There are anxiety reducing techniques that can help.

If you are concerned you can see a cardiologist to deeply verify the origin of that.

It means ....: Your doctor cares for you.Symptoms of  "irregular heart beat"/palpitation/flutter are commonly encountered in clinical practice and may be benign. Your doctor will perform an ECG as a way of trying to determine what may be causing your symptoms. Your doctor may not feel comfortable with the findings on the ECG and will then ask a cardiologist's help in deciding what it is or isn't.

i am taking atenolol 25mgs. twice a day for my b.p. i suffer from bad anxiety with feelings my heart is racing. when this happens, my pulse doesn't go up. anyway doctor told me to take an extra 25 milligrams a day. it made my heart beat fast. why?

: I am not sure how that happens because a higher dose of atenolol will slow down the heart rate, not the opposite. In that case, you just resume the previous dose 25 mg, twice a day then observe. Please note that the feeling of heart racing (palpitation) does not always mean high heart rate. Take care.

i have palpitations.extra beats and now latley racing heart.i have been on vitamin d 50,000 once a week from doctor .do i need magnesium too.

You could ..: as magnesium and/or potassium supplementation probably will not hurt - though magnesium can cause diarrhea and potassium can also be bad for your heart in too high a dose.  But it's probably more important to identify what triggers your palpitations and try to avoid those things.  But in general, minimizing stress and avoiding stimulants(that means caffeine and nicotine) should also help.
