I am taking atenolol 25mgs. twice a day for my b.p. i suffer from bad anxiety with feelings my heart is racing. when this happens, my pulse doesn't go up. anyway doctor told me to take an extra 25 milligrams a day. it made my heart beat fast. why?

I am not sure how that happens because a higher dose of atenolol will slow down the heart rate, not the opposite. In that case, you just resume the previous dose 25 mg, twice a day then observe. Please note that the feeling of heart racing (palpitation) does not always mean high heart rate. Take care.
