Treatment for future: Plantar fasciitis is considered what’s called an overuse injury. That being said it takes repetitive action causing the damage to create the symptoms. To treat this for the long term lthe correct type of support is required in the arch. I usually recommend a custom orthotics for this condition. However sometimes an over-the-counter device may work or supportive shoe. Ibuprofen helps

Mixed message: Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the tough lining of the bottom of the foot.  It can be caused by trauma or from wearing bad fitting shoes. "grit" can not be felt or seen on x rays so i suspect the doc is guessing at a cause.  A podiatrist or wound specialist is trained to do a more appropriate diagnosis and recommend simple treatments.  Second opinion time.

Why not a second.: The time for a second opinion is before you consent to a fasciotomy. Although the results of surgery are designed to resolve your issues, on occasions, the results are of little value. and in fact can make things worse. It might be best for you to deal with your obvious reluctance and seek another opinion before you allow any procedure to be performed on you.

We do surgery (bunions, hammertoes, ankle fractures, etc.), wound care for diabetics or trauma patients, treat athlete's foot and toenails fungus, ingrown toenails, tendinitis, sports injuries, birth defects or deformities, bracing and orthotics--just about anything affecting the foot or ankle. Including a lot of plantar fasciitis!

A second opinion might help to see if something was missed.
