Could be: There are many reasons for vomiting and diarrhea.  Is he having other symptoms such as fever?  Did the symptoms develop after eating a specific food?  Is anybody else affected?  Answers to these questions can help narrow down whether this is a food-related problem, an infection or some other underlying problem .  If he is not at least keeping in fluids he should see a physician for a workup.

Gastroenteritis: 2 common causes are a viral gastrointestinal infection and food poisoning. Both conditions usually resolve within a week. Treatment is resting, good room temperature fluid intake, a light diet such as broth, saltine crackers progressing to soft solid foods, flat gingerale to settle nausea and kaopectate or Imodium for severe diarrhea control. See your MD if not improving.

Le Grippe: Take him to the emergency room. His is severely ill, at risk for dangerous levels of dehydration, rupture of esophagus from retching, and cardiovascular problems.

: Always a possibility aside from indigestion. If no longer symptomatic there is a good possibility that he was no longer contagious at the time you saw him.

Unlikely: Assuming it is the same virus causing his illness, then most likely not, as you had the sickness and developed antibodies to fight it off.

Sure: There's always a risk when one's fingers go where the sun don't shine, or even where light does shine. The usual way to eat infectious poop germs is by accidentally getting the germs onto one's hands from touching surfaces such as doorknobs, faucet handles, bathroom walls, cell phones, keyboards, etc... Of course, sticking one's finger where the poop germs live is a sure way to spread things.

Food poisoning: Less likely food poisoning because the offending agent usually takes 4-12 hours to produce symptoms.  Probably a chemical irritant to the mucosal lining.  The body is great at trying to get rid of irritants.  However, the fish did not cause the diarrhea. Whatever irritated the lining increased the movement of the intestines which moved the stool contents along at a faster rate-thus diarrhea.

Not food poisoning: Body aches, with no other symptoms, probably isn't food poisoning. More likely an unrelated viral infection. See your doctor if your symptoms continue or you otherwise remain concerned.

Viral gastroenteritis can also cause:

    a headache or muscle aches
    belly pain or cramping
    a loss of appetite
if you have diarrhea and vomiting, your body can lose too much water. Doctors call this “dehydration.” dehydration.
