woke up just now in the middle of the night with my back hurting a lot for no good reason. what can i do? my mid to high back is hurting very much, and there has been no recent trauma to it or reason that i can think of for it to be hurting. this happened

Pain : Pain in the thoracic spine may be from a compression fracture.  Sometimes compression fractures happen from very minimal trauma.  I would recommend seeing your primary care doctor in the morning.  If you develop bowel and bladder retention or incontinence or weakness or simply can not handle the pain then you should immediately go to the emergency room.  Good luck!

See your doctor: This problem can only be solved by seeing your doctor and being evaluated face-to-face.  After a thorough examination, your doctor should be able to tell you what's wrong and what to do about it.

Disc dis. or arthrit: Commonest cause of back pain is degenerative disease of spine which is arthritis. Bulging discs may also cause similar symptoms. See a neurologist or orthopedic.

2 separate thing: The bleeding hemmerroid can be treated with a rubberband ligation and stop being a problem . Back to the doctor who did your colonoscopy.

Back pain can be from loose ligaments or a sprainn of back.But can be constipation that leads to the pain.

Explanation : There are many causes for this, like beginning of cold, or food poisoning, or viral gastroenteritis. Anyway you need to rest and drink a lot of fluids like ice tea or water, ginger ale. Light diet for few days.

See below: This type of pain is usually related to a muscle spasm in the spine, rib, or shoulder and can occur due to over use, poor posture, or trauma. It will usually improve on its own. If you still have pain in 2 weeks see your physician as there are other spinal conditions that cause similar pain.

Odd: A mid-twenties male who complains of back pain in bed & relief after morning defecation presents an odd set of symptoms.  This symptom pattern suggests, to me at least, pelvic sacroiliac joint (sij) injury from participation in extreme sports with fall(s) & buttock impact. Sij disorder pain is worse lying down. I have seen ibs in young extreme sport enthusiasts; accompanied by sij disorder.

Multiple: Multiple potential causes, some spine related such as a lumbar disc herniation; some soft tissue related, such as a " pulled muscle", others rated to other organ systems, such as a kidney stone or infection.  A good medical checkup is usually a good place to start.

: If this menstrual pain is new you should see a GYN doctor. However, if this pain has been off and on since the time you had period it is not uncommon, you can take acetaminophen or ibuprofen or apply local heat as needed during that time. Contraction of the uterus when having period could be painful which is called dysmenorrhea. Endometriosis is also a common cause of back pain during period.
