hw many times during pregnacy are u suppoe to go for an ultrasound to check the babies weight gain?

As needed: There is no specific recommendation for routine ultrasound exams during a normal pregnancy. However, most women are going to have at least one ultrasound at 18 to 21 weeks, the ideal time to evaluate for normal fetal structures. There will likely be additional sono's if there is a problem with the size of the uterus (abdominal measurements), gestational diabetes, elevated blood pressure, etc.

my son is 3 weeks 5 days old and exclusively breastfeeding. 11 days ago at his pediatrician appointment he was 8 lbs 15.6 oz. today, he is 9 lbs 8.8 oz on our infant home scale. is this any cause for concern or is this normal weight gain?

Trial of labor: There is no right or wrong answer. A trial of labor with timely c/section if there is inadequate progress of cervical dilatation would be a reasonable approach.

Yes: It really depends on what you term "slowly." there are standardized growth curves that most babies will follow, within reasonable variation, that your pediatrician uses to track your baby's growth patterns. As long as your baby grows generally along normal gaining patterns, things are probably good. Remember, growth often has slow and faster periods.

Talk to his doctor: Talk to your doctor and get his growth pattern from birth. Many children his age graze rather than "eating" so it seems like they eat nothing. Their weight gain slows down normally. See if his weight is matched to his height and also if he is growing to match parental height.  Your doctor can give you a growth chart to follow how he is doing and see if there is any thing to worry about.

A few basics: Get plenty of stress-free rest, some daily exercise, eat a well-balanced diet, be sure your blood pressure and blood sugar are normal, completely avoid alcohol and tobacco, and follow your obstetrician's advice closely. And try to sleep on your side. Good luck!

Perfect!: Over the first couple of months, your baby's weight gain should average 15-30 grams a day (1/2 ounce to one ounce).  I calculated your baby's gain and age of 7 weeks, so it is averaging 25 grams a day over that 7 weeks.  That is fantasti and right on track!

Postpregnancy weight: There are a variety of issues that can cause weight gain after having a baby. If you have been breastfeeding and now aren't, you may be eating more calories than you actually need. You should be checked for thyroid or other problems by your physician. You may not be as physically active as you used to be because your time is spent caring for a baby instead of pursuing physical activities.

Hard to say: These hospitalizations are routine in such cases and more a way to document calorie intake/feeding stooling etc. They can often do some tests that are hard to do as an outpatient that will verify that all the babies systems are working okay, or find one that is not. If/when they decide it is primarily a problem of calorie (energy) intake they can design a feeding program that will help.
