my 2 year old son is once again crying with ear pain. he just finished taking amoxicillin for another ear infection not two weeks ago. what should do?

Needs a recheck: Taking an antibiotic for an ear infection does not protect into the future. If he is symptomatic again, he may have another infection. The only way to know is to have his doctor examine him. In the meantime, use Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen as tolerated for pain.

my 2 year old son is having a constant persistent cough but has severe asthma and allergies has moderate to severe asthma and allergies is on an advair inhaler twice a day for the last two weeks and the last three days i switched him back to his pulmicort

Has : Has he been seen by an allergist, or are these medications being given by his pediatrician.? There may be more going on. Would definitely have him seen by his doctor or whoever is covering for him.

Trip to doc: The OTC medications promoted for cough/congestion are relatively worthless in small kids. They would give you something to do, but beyond that they also have side effects &amp; delay seeking proper evaluation on what may be a significant problem.

Elevate bed: Slightly elevating the head of the bed can allow the mucous to drain more easily. He could also be allergic to dust mites which are usually found in the bed.

Call your local: poison control center, http://www.poison.org/actFast/1800.asp or 1-800-222-1222. Because of his age, they will most likely direct you to go to a hospital-based pediatric emergency center.

Missing data: "For a while" is not much of a description. Diarrhea lasting more than 2 wks is considered a chronic process by most &amp; requires a workup. Most 2 yo can firm up if you avoid lactose containing milk temporarily &amp; feed them applesauce and fresh bananas. If the stools are blood tinged he needs to see his doc.

Other calcium source: Either try flavoring the milk with chocolate or strawberry flavor and if it does not work do not worry.  Try other calcium sources like yogurt, cheese, orange juice, broccoli.

does teething cause reflux? my two-year-old son used to have it really bad and now he's getting his molars it seems to have resurfaced.

No: But if he used to have his hands in the mouth all the time while teething, he probably induced the physiologic gag reflex and regurgitation.

Can't Tell Now: Many children outgrow their food allergies but not all.  For things like milk, egg and wheat, around 80% outgrow them.  For nuts, it's as bad as only 20% outgrowing them.  Shellfish/crustaceans are somewhere in between.  There are new treatments in development though that may allow an allergist to desensitize food allergic patients in the next few years.

my two year old son's temperature is running low, his forehead is at 97degrees. should i be concerned?

Accepted Answer

Not at all: 97 is a normal temperature when taken on the forehead.  Is there a reason you are checking his temperature?  Does he have some other symptoms you are concerned about?  Temperature is just one vital sign among many, so wondering if there is/are other signs that lead you to believe he is I'll in some way. Write back with any other questions or concerns.  But NO WORRIES about his temperature. ....
