my daughter is three months old and 5 days ago we had a stool exam because her poops is mushy green, watery and it has mucus. her puss is 0-1..what does it mean?for now her pedia gave her antibiotic..

Diarrhea : I need more information.  Did her doctor request a stool culture?  If that was done &amp; it showed bacterial infection then you are on the right track. Modifying  her diet and  keeping her hydrated  is very important.  I hope she gets better soon.

Unclear ?: If you are having loose bm months after taking an antibiotic, one needs to consider Clostridium difficile infection which can be life-threatening if gone untreated.  Get an appt with your doctor ASAP.  However this is an answer based on my best guess re.your question. If this is not the right answer, please provide a better description of your bowel symptoms.

i did the h.pylori stool antigen test 1 month after the antibiotic treatment. the result was negative. am i h.pylori free now ?do i need another test?

Sounds: like you are "home free"...however if it were me..I would obtain another culture in about a month!

Stool: Antibiotics may affect the color and character of stools because not only do they affect the "bad" bacteria the doctor may be treating you for, it also affects the "good" bacteria that are residents in our gastrointestinal system.  This may change the make up of those bacteria and lead to different digestion patterns, causing changes in stool.

Yes: About one third of the solid matter in stool is dead bacteria. Also, the actions of bacteria on bilirubin influences the color of stool. We have trillions of bacteria in our intestines and antibiotics kill many of these bacteria, influencing the color of our stool. I advise taking probiotic supplements both during and after taking antibiotics to restore our normal intestinal flora.

Probiotics: This is probably caused by the antibiotic.  Many antibiotics can kill off helpful intestinal bacteria that keep us regular.  This can lead to abnormal stools, and/or diarrhea.  This is most often helped with a probiotic tablet, or an active culture yogurt.  If the problem persists, fever occurs you should see your doctor to be screened for Clostridium difficile.

No problem: Stool color is determined by the food you eat as well as the bacterial flora. It can range from yellow to brown. What you should watch for is diarrhea during  antibiotic use which may signal problems.
