Use the machines instead of free weights to avoid injury.

Exercise at about 90% of the maximum you can lift well once (90% 1RM). Eat regularly. The performance enhancing drug with the best track record in scientific lit is aspirn like drugs preventing muscle soreness/breakdown. A bit of pre-medicating before gym.
Eat protein.

Do exercise several times a week, as it is great for the body, such as weight lifting and abdominal muscle exercises (sit-ups, leg lifts, crunches).
