ALS: I would have it evaluated then.  Put your mind at ease.  See a neurologist or physiatrist and get a good evaluation and possibly an electrodiagnostic study.  Twitching in muscle is common and usually benign.

Usually benign: Fasciculations does not = ALS. They are more likely a symptom of excess caffeine, lack of sleep, anxiety, stress, etc. Diagnosis for ALS does include fasciculations in the criteria, but only one part of it, and must be accompanied by weakness in the same limb. Twitching as related to ALS indicates dying muscle and therefore weakness which does not come and go. See a Neurologist for eval if needed.

Muscle twitch: Many causes of muscle twitches , ALS is not likely to be the cause of them . If they persist or increase in frequency  or length of time , u should be checked.

Fasciculations: This is quite common and nobody understands it. If everything else is good, relax. This is not how either illness presents. You may read up on &quot;benign fasciculation syndrome&quot; if you want. Some folks say that there are associated systemic symptoms such as fatigue; I doubt this. Best wishes.

Multiple causes: stresss, tension, metabolic abnormalities including low calcium, potassium , magnesium, throid dysfunction. You must obtain a comprehensive physical exam to include blood and urine testing.

Hereditary ALS: Genetic familial ALS is very rare, and clusters in folks of South Pacific backgrounds.  Most likely you have benign fasciculations, but thyroid dysfunction may also be a culprit.  Suggest you have these items checked by a neurologist, just to reassure you if nothing else.  My condolences for the loss of your sister.

Muscle Twitching: Muscle twitching is caused by minor muscle contractions in the area. Causes include lack of nutrients in the diet, medication side effects, lack of sleep, too much caffeine/exercise/stress, medical conditions that cause metabolic disorders, including low potassium, kidney disease, and uremia. Calcium /Magnesium supplement may help. If symptoms continue see a DR. Most likely not ALS.

i have body wide muscle twitching which has got worse since it started in december. i have had 2 emgs which were clear but us getting worse in calves. should i be worried it is something more than anxiety?my grandad was diagnosed with als in december

Neurologist: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor, preferably a neurologist.
