would doxycycline be helpful in treating multiple styes in one eye? every doctor ive seen prescribes an erythromycin ointment, but it just contains the issue. at this point, both my top and bottom lid are swollen. and, im looking for any help.

ID specialist: A different antibiotic like doxycycline might or might not help, depending on whether the problem is an infection or a non-infectious problem; and if an infection, the particular bacteria involved. Consider asking for referral to an infectious diseases specialist for aid in interpreting culture results for various bacteria (if done) and selecting the best antibiotic.

Assuming the: diagnosis of stye/hordeolum (an infection of an oil gland in the eyelid) is correct, the treatment you describe may or may not be helping. Styes usually resolve on their own with good hygiene and warm compresses. Antibiotic (megamox) ointment or drops are unproven; I see no role for Flanzen here. Be patient; don't aggravate with make up, etc. Should resolve in 7-14 days. Wear a smile/sun glasses:)

Inflammation: Styes cause inflammation which dilates blood vessels, resulting in release of histamine, which causes itching. Make a hot pack with a sock filled with rice, zap in the microwave for 30 seconds and gently place on lids for 10 minutes.  It may swell more then drain.  If not see an eyemd for a minor procedure called chalazion incision and drainage.

Meibomian Glands: A stye is a clogged inflamed oil gland in the eyelid.  You probably have meibomian gland dysfunction. You should ask your eye md about this.  It is abbreviated "mgd."   there are treatments for this which can reduce the frequency that you get styes.

See an eye MD: First, you need to make sure they're styes.  If so, several things can be tried ranging from warm compresses to steroids injections to surgery.

See an eye doctor!: I suppose I wonder why you're having so many!  See an eye doctor to evaluate them.  Until then, most doctors just recommend warm compresses on your eye to let them come to a head and drain on their own.
