Many possibilities: There are many risk factors for blood clots. Immobility, trauma , surgery and other illness. There are also dozens of inherited medical conditions like factor V leiden mutation, protein S, and C deficiency and many more that increase the risk of  blood clots. Previous blood clots is another risk factor. Multiple blood clots usually associate with a combination of the more serious risk factors.

Not a true period: A true menstrual period cannot come  14 days after the last period. The recent bleeding could be a hormone imbalance or bleeding from  something in the uterus such as fibroids or polyps. The presence of clots suggests heavier than normal bleeding.  I would suggest a visit with your obgyn.

If : If you weren't pregnant then you likely have irregular cycles on the basis of not-ovulating. Some women will have apparent "periods" on a fairly regular basis but not be ovulating. They are at risk of developing dysfunctional uterine bleeding or anovulatory bleeding that occurs at different times in the cycle. I : I am glad that you were properly diagnosed with blood clots, as that is a serious problem.  I'm not sure if the blood clots are you your lungs or your legs.  Treatment with the blood thinner is appropriate for this condition, and should also help prevent heart attack or stroke since it sounds like you have risk factors.  Be sure to follow up closely to monitor your blood "clotting times", since you are on a blood thinner, and notify your doctor if you have any new symptoms such as shortness of breath, pain, or bleeding.

Not sufficient info: You must inform us when and where the clot occurred, and whether you were pregnant.  Please provide as complete a history as you can, including past medical history.  You may or may not be at increased risk, and if you are, you may be a candidate for preventive therapy.

Yes: Yes it can. Although multiple factors go into a clot formation. Just keep it moving! Just walk around every 20-40 minutes.
