Swallow most: Nasal drainage from allergies or infections in the nasal cavity produces thick fluid.most of this flows downhill into your throat. You can cough it out, aspirate in into your lungs (that's bad) or you can swallow into the stomach where most, not all, virus' and bacteria die.you can blow this fluid out but most gets swallowed.

Common.: Cold viruses cause inflammation and fragility of vessels in your upper airway.  Small streaks of blood in mucus are frequently seen in upper respiratory infections.  Frank blood is much less common. Persistent symptoms warrant attention.

my 5 year old has always got dry mucus in her nose constantly for over 6 months no flue cold only dry mucus we clean and next day back what is it pls?

Could be normal: Could be some mild allergy too. It is not worrisome. Try eliminating dairy and gluten and see if that helps clear it up some. Consider craniosacral therapy as well to help promote better drainage.

Bad breath: Impossible to answer without a complete history.Mucus;cold can be a sign of post nasal drip-this can cause bad breath. Other causes can be systemic disease, your diet, from medications. One big cause can be from mouth - periodontal(gum)disease, bad teeth, lesions, and the tongue. You should be checked by your dentist and md depending on history.Dentist who knows about bad breath or oral medicine.

i think i have a large clump of mucus is stuck in my nose and i can't get it out. i can see the clump moving freely way in the back of my nostril.?

Sinus Rinse: If you can't blow it out, consider going to any pharmacy and picking up a neil-med sinus rinse kit. If it's really not a polyp or some other soft-tissue mass, then i'd expect you could rinse it out with the saline solution. Or, you could use an infant bulb-suction device to suck it out.

Nasal irrigation: Consider nasal irrigation with a neti pot or similar device.  There is a good instructional video here.  If the symptoms continue to bother you, seek medical evaluation from your doctor.

Likely sinusitis: Your symptoms are suggesting sinusitis, which is most of the times viral and symptom control may suffice- for example nasal saline, Acetaminophen/ibuprofen, Claritin. If symptoms persist over 5-7 days or worsen suddenly see your physician.

Get checked: If you are being treated for a sinus or respiratory ailment it is not uncommon to have muscle aches from the illness or from the coughing or a rough night of sleep.
