Urothelium: Called transitional urothelium, this is cell layer lining urethra. It is not a mucus membrane.

Ambiguous: You don't mention if you're male or female and it does matter. If male, you have urethritis - may be chlamydial, gonorrhea, or non-specific. If female, you may have vaginal or urethral discharge: trichomonal, candidal, mycoplasmal, as well as gonorrhea or chlamydial.  "all" tests are probably not negative.  Go back for more evaluation.

U may have a: yeast infection,which causes itching and a whitish " cottage cheese like" discharge.Try an over the counter treatment for women's yeast infection.

Possible infection: A tickling sensation in the urethra along with " mucous threads" may signal an infection. Suggest you see a doctor for examination.

i've been noticing a few drops of mucus-like fluid on my underwear coming from my urethra after a bowel movement (and even times when i need to hold stool in), and i'm wondering what it is? do i need to clean the toilet after use when it happens?

: Occasionally some prostatic fluid can come out of the urethra on straining hard for BM. This is not to worry about. You need not do anything more with the toilet than what you do normally.

: Yes. When you 'hold in' a BM you squeeze the muscles around the anus/rectum and the prostate area.

can i put lidocaine on my urethra? is it gentle?is that considered a mucous membranes? it is swollen and vagistat cream made it worse? benzocaine resorcinol-vagistat ingredients. why would lidocaine be different or better for that urethra?

: There will be no difference in side effects I think but the anesthetic (numb) effect can be different upon the strength. We use lidocaine jelly for numbing the urethra during urinary catheter insertion.

i had mutual masturbation with a girl. and had vaginal fluids on my penis after touching it. would the hiv on the fluid penetrate the mucous membrane of my penis to get into the urethra?

: First, there is probably no chance your partner has HIV. Even if she does, HIV is not transmitted by hand-genital contact, even if vaginal fluid is used for lubrication. There is no sexual risk without penile penetration. Don't worry about it.

Flu protection ?: Airborne spread of the flu virus can come into contact with inanimate surfaces touched by hands, and washing one's hands after contact with "other mucus membranes" as mentioned usually will prevent spread to those areas.  The real "reason" for hand washing is the spread of viral particles by infected individuals on doors, stair railings, etc..

Is it mucus?: Sexual arousal can cause discharge of mucus like material and is normal. If you do not have other symptoms and do not have urinary infection, you may ignore the mucus.
