i'm having an "mri abdomen w/wo iv and mrcp." it's how the order reads. how long will the procedure last & will i enter the machine head 1st. or feet?

Variable: Mri scans typically take 40-60 minutes, but there are many factors that determine the length of time.  How the study is protocoled and the machine itself.  Most scans imaging the torso are done with feet into the  scanner first.

What ru looking for?: That is the real question--mri usually has better resolution and clearer images--is great for soft tissues. Ct quicker and more convenient to obtain and shows most everything could need.

if i'm doing mri abdomen-pelvic for detection of endometriosis, what is the best time of menstrual cycle to perform?
can really mri diagnose endometriosis? how far sensitive?

Endometriosis detect: The "gold standard" for detecting Endometriosis is to actually see them via Laparoscopy. Sometimes the lesions are not "powder burn" in  typical appearance but "clear" if they do not contain old blood. If they are "clear" the MRI devices can't see them.

mri abdomen - mildly enlarged spleen and liver ? is this serious. my ast is high and alt high . no hepatits , no alcholol , just bloating

Gastroenterologist: Elevated liver enzymes with enlarged liver and spleen need an investigation by a gastrenterologist.

thanks i am tb - have recently given birth and had a chest ct mri abdomen and mri neck. all negative. was worried about lymphoma with the night sweat

Mgt/workup: Lymphoma of thorax or abdomen would often be detected on imaging studies. I would suggest a workup to include a CBC, differential.

pet scan, endescope, occult stools, pap smear, mri abdomen..neg. colon ca 7/10  what to do?also had a liver scan done... neg. female 59, nonsmoker, diagnosed colon ca 7/11, resection, followed by 6 mo. chemo. cea continues to rise since stopping chemo 3/1

You : You need to be restaged at this point:  physical and repeat imaging, i.e. Ct or pet/ct.

what's the difference between mr enterograpy and mri of abdomen. which is better. i am having both?

MR enterography....: Is intended to better evaluate the small bowel, especially in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.  A large volume of oral contrast is given to distend the small bowel so the mucosa and wall can be better evaluated. Dynamic sequences are also done to see if peristalsis is normal.  A traditional abdomen mr is not as good in looking at the bowel, mostly because distension inadequate.

MRI: Mri can be performed in an open or closed magnet. For MRI if the abdomen it is better to have it done in a closed magnet, it gives better images.

Sometimes better: An MRI with contract is a very good test for this issue.

mri of abdomen shows mild left basilar atelectasis, no pleural effusions.. is this serious? i'm worried, and my follow up with dr isn't until monday..

Should be fine: Incidental findings are always worrisome through the surprise element they bring, and atelectasis or partially deflated lung is among the most common benign findings. At times it still may reflect pathology either in respective lung or adjacent structures. Definitely worth mentioning during follow up with your doc as to how to proceed going forward.
