Use soft toothbrush, rise your mouth with listerine and see the dentist to prevent biting inside your mouth.

Sounds like Cankers: Canker sores, or recurrent aphthous ulcers are an autoimmune, inflammatory reaction to trauma, medications, and just about any emotional or physical stress you can imagine--worse if they are combined. They are self-limiting (go away in about 10-14 days) and require no treatment. Pain can be controlled by ibuprofen/acetominophen. If no relief, see dentist for laser or chemical cautery for relief.

Autoimmune disease: They are more like canker sores.  They occur on the soft movable parts.  They can occur inside the lips, but rarely on the outside.  Outside sore sores are usually cold sores caused by a virus.

See doctor: If this has been present for a few days, it is likely from canker sores which will heal in about a week.  If this is a chronic problem, you will need to see your doctor to find out.  Have you had your teeth and gum cleaned by a dental hygienist lately?  Do you brush and floss your teeth (although there is controversy over flossing) regularly?

Can be other: Typical mouth sores are Herpes or Aphthous ulcers. If not sure , see your MD or Dentist. If on shiny wet surface inside lip then most common is Aphthous ulcer. If on firm, dry lip/outer lip then Herpes is most common. Both are viral and can appear when immune system is weakened. Can have either / both without HIV. If at risk, get tested. Good Luck.

Viral infection: Hi Shreya,

Sorry you are going through this.  It sounds miserable!
It could be any number of viral infections even Mononucleosis in which case antibiotics are NOT recommended.  Most viral infections are self limiting but may take several days to turn the corner.  Cold sores (fever blisters ) take up to 10 days to clear.  Make sure you get plenty of fluids.

Get seen: This is lupus, Behcet's, or agranulocytosis until proved otherwise. If it's herpangina, it will self-cure. If it's pemphigus, it's a long-term management problem. There are several other possibilities.
