As above : Mood  stabilizer  can increase weight however . There r few that less likely to do that .  Discuss with u provider. Good luck.

Mood stabilizer: At the right therapeutic dose ,  topamax along with Abilify (aripiprazole) seems to work the best, at least in my experience.

Skin types: The cause of the weight gain would not be involved in stretch marks - Some folks have skin the creates them more readily or not. If you gained a lot - even w/o marks - you may want to find an alternative. Talk w/ Dr. and consider psychotherapy to optimize outcome and lower dose.

Lamictal: It is important to discuss with your physician your recent experience with  efficacy involving the lamictal. While your experience may suggest a need for dose adjustment (lamictal levels can be affected by hormonal status, other medications, change in generic manufacturer etc), many times changes in the severity of one's condition related to psychosocial stress is a major factor.

Lamictal: Lamictal usually doesn't but you have to go on it slowly to avoid a rash & if you miss a days dose you have to start over with the dosing--most pts like it however.

Lithium: Consider lithium, and speak to your doctor about it.  Lithium is a tried, tested and proven mood stabiliser.  It has some limitations, which include toxicity at high levels and thyroid dysfunction, but it does not cause weight gain.  Its level will need to be monitored periodically.  It may be a reasonable choice.  Do discuss it with your doctor.

i look 6 mo pregnant. looked this way few years. after having twins lost all weight but then got on bipolar, antidepressant, mood stabilizer meds. the weight began to pile on. from 130 to 205. is it the meds? what kind of doc to see, already saw pcp?

Probably med SE: Many of the medications used for bipolar disorder cause wt gain-there are some that cause less than others.  I would suggest a nutritionist and possibly a personal trainer. Need regular exercise and may do better on an anti-inflammatroy diet, avoid dairy, grains and sugar, cause inflammation in the body  and some people tend to be unable to control their eating/appetite when eating them .

ive been taking trokendi xr 100 for about 8 months. now my insurance wont cover it. i had a card from the manufacturer, long story short its $999.00 per bottle. im on my second day without it. its a mood stabilizer for me. is cold turkey ok?

: First, it is not wise to have sudden cessation due to withdrawal effects, and even potential rare seizure.  You could use generic which is pharmacologically equivalent.  Contact your psychiatrist now, and discuss how this should be handled.

Lithium is : A good  mood stabilizer for many people.  Although i don't see a mood disorder listed, i believe you may have indicated in one of your past questions that you have a bipolar  spectrum mood disorder. Your psychiatrist will likely select your mood stabilizer depending on which type of bipolar do you have, side effect profile ; response to previous medications. Take care.
