Vaginal yeast...: ...can cause "paper cut" sores, especially in area of general inflammation from yeast (red, irritated, itchy). It takes a few days for monistat to work, but some yeasts are resitant to it. If you're sure you had yeast, wait a few days and see if it clears up. If severe (e.g. multiple blisters or open sores) it could be herpes, so get care ASAP if in doubt -- or in a few days if not clearing up.

Obgyn exam: Consider having your Obgyn do an examination. Yeast infections do not typically cause a brown discoloration of the periurethral area. Your doctor can do a pelvic exam. They can confirm the yeast infection has resolved. They can evaluate for other causes of genital itching and determine if any hyper pigmentation abnormalities are present.

Should be OK: It's always safest to discard older drugs and use fresh ones, but most drugs are perfectly fine for a long time after their expiration dates and it should be true for Monistat. The date means that potency and side effects haven't been tested for longer times, but usually they are safe and effective much longer if not mishandled, e.g. not sitting on top of a hot radiator.

Moni stat 1: M1 can take 3 or 4 days to completely dissolve and many anecdotal posts describe quite a messy discharge and powder residue for days. Since Monistat only eradicates one kind of yeast, if the symptoms do not resolve, consult your gynecologist.

Creamy stuff: I would use the monistat off at least seven days for best results

Possible: That medication works best when present continuously in the vaginal for the full three dose cycle.  It may work if used intermittently.
