i was switched from vyvanse to modafinil for my narcolepsy, it's been 2 weeks and the fatigue is present still and it doesn't seem to work as well.

Role reversal: My guess is that your doctor wanted to use Modafinil first but had to prove to your insurance that a stimulant was not helpful before switching.   Maybe higher dose?  Also, ask about Xyrem (yet another helpful but highly restricted, difficult to prescribed medication).

Drug Screen: Metabolites of all drugs and medications you take may show up on a drug screen.  They may be looking for specific medications, and request these on the test. If you inform the lab and show your prescriptions when providing urine for the test, you should be fine.  If the vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) you took was not prescribed to you, that's a different issue.  Take care.

No, it wakes you up: Modafanil is fda approved for wakefulness in the conditions of narcolepsy and shift-work sleep disorder.  It is sometimes abused by students studying to stay awake, but in and of itself it will not make you smart.

Accepted Answer

Most likely: I am unaware of any issues with Modafinil and a sulfa allergy, but you can always check with the pharmacy who should know all the medications you take and assure there are no interactions with them, etc. As some medications should not be taken with modafinil.

Generally not: There are recommendations to monitor blood pressure periodically, however the medication is generally very well tolerated without long term adverse effects.

Pharmacy may know: One can go to the pharmacy and ask if there is a generic version of the drug.  Unfortunately, the generic versions may still be expensive.  One can also go onto the manufacturers' website to see if there is a discount plan or coupons for people who cannot afford the medicine.  Then, one can take the prices back to his doctor to talk about whether or not there are alternative medications.

Call pharmacy: Most of the docs who volunteer to answer questions on this forum are in the USA.  We have several South African docs who contribue as well.  I am from the US and I cannot find anything definite on supply of Provigil currently.  Call your pharmacy or your GP and ask.

Many possible: There are many different side effects possible though, be reassured, that this is a well tolerated medication for most people. Headaches are probably most common and so are gastrointestinal effects like nausea, abdominal discomfort or decreased appetite. Like with many stimulant you could feel anxious, restless jittery, have difficulty sleeping, or have  palpitations.
