Often nothing: It really depends on the amount of insufficiency.  Therre are many people with mild insufficiency that never need anything done to their valves.  If it worsens then it can lead to heart failure.  This can cause fatigure, shortness of breath, leg swelling, funny heart rhythms and more.  Check with your doctor.

Diastolic dysfunctio: It is a sign of abnormal filling during the resting phase of the cardiac cycle (diastole). It may be just impaired relaxation (the mildest form) or actually indicative of different degrees of restricted filling. There are 4 recognized stages. The mildest is extremely common and present in most people &gt;age 40. The 4th stage is extremely rare and present only in rare diseases like cardiac amyloid.

MR: The mitral valve has 2 leaflets which separates the left ventricle from the left atrium. Blood passes across the mv from the la to the lv when the heart is filling.  When the ventricle contracts, the mv is closed and no blood goes backward into the la unless regurgitation is present. Then the blood leaks backward, overfilling the la and raising the pressure.

Moderation: .Prolapse means that the valve is loose, not closing firmly as it should. May permit a tiny amount of blood to leak through, producing a heart murmur. Aerobic exercise strengthens the heart and makes it more efficient.Aerobic exercise including walking, jogging, swimming, or cycling, at moderate pace.  Should monitor heart rate and other symptoms and slow down if feel faint or lightheaded.

Diastolic component: This is the velocity of the flow crossing your mitral valve. The flow from the upper chamber (Left Atrium) to Left Ventricle is regulated by the mitral valve.

- Velocities can tell your cardiologist the level of impairment in diastole of ir normal.
