Dihydropyridine: Dihydropyridines are calcium channel blockers that include nifedipine, amlodipine, Felodipine and nicardipine.  They're preferred before resorting to Minoxidil which routinely causes reflex tachycardia and fluid retention and thus must be used in conjunction with a potent diuretic and betablocker.  Minoxidil routinely causes facial hair (unacceptable for women) and can cause pericardial effusion.

before starting duloxetine 60mg i was 242.5 lbs and have remained same since, however, my waist has gone 107cmto124cm.can this drug do this? i have on/off used minoxidil which can add weight but still doesn't explain only the waist getting bigger

Waistline: I see you are on Sertraline. Duloxetine does interact with sertraline and that combination may be causing your distention.  Talk to your doctor about that.

: Minoxidil in much higher dose has been used as a tertiary anti-hypertensive drug for years when the conventional drugs in first and second tiers fail to control BP. One serious side effect on the heart is pericardial effusion, usually at high dose, rare but sill possible at low dose. If med is effective in growing hair, he can continue but doctor needs to monitor your husband for this side effect.

Not a good idea: You're not trying to open the earth like a farmer to let more rain sink in. Roughing the scalp is not going to increase absorption but may open the skin to germs & start a scalp infection.Be patient.If this stuff helps you, it will take weeks before it shows &  then is not likely to be as helpful as you want.

Damp not wet: Apply after your warm shower. If you towel dry your hair to remove all free standing water and then apply to a warm damp scalp with occlusion (shower cap) you will have optimized absorption. However you may experience adverse symptoms and should stop if you feel your heart racing, lightheaded, or dizzy.
BTW package instructions are to apply to a dry scalp. If so blow dry  to warm scalp
