my son is 10 years of age, for the past month he's been having nose bleeding. i always advise him to kneep his nose. now nose bleeding is continuous. yesterday and this morning.

please advise what should i do.

Advice: Is it going down the back of his throat or out the front? Does he pick his nose a  lot, is it dry? To stop bleeding in the front of nose, put a tampon in. Does he have new bruises or purple spots on his skin? If so, he needs a complete blood count with platelets &amp; coag studies (PT/PTT). If he's bleeding in the back he needs ENT doc to scope &amp; cauterize the bleeder w/ silver nitrate or elec current

Perhaps just dry: As long as you did not report any trauma. May just be from dryness. Since this was the only time. See if happens again

Learn to control: Trauma caused the bleed.  He or you need to pinch the nose shut in the fleshy part near the tip with thumb and forefinger  for 5 minutes to stop the bleeding at the first sign of bleeding.  Then leave alone or  use a little ointment to prevent dryness. It can take 3 weeks at times for it to heal securely so that slight trauma doesn't restart bleeding. See dr if persists longer or not controlled, .

Nose bleeds are: Common in middle childhood &amp; often reflect irritants like dust, pollen, fumes, smoke etc that the kid is exposed to on a regular basis.These things accumulate in the nasal  passages &amp; lead to nasal rubbing when the kids are half asleep or during the day.The trauma causes small capillaries in the nose to blead.Nasal saline wash can remove the irritants &amp; nasal saline gel helps if applied at night.

Epistaxis: Nose bleeds are common in children with allergies or on antihistamines for allergies.  The inflammation from this hypersensitivity is often worse with dry air, nose picking, blowing, etc.  In the absence of any other abnormal bleeding (little red dots to the skin, bleeding from the gums, rectum, etc.) humidification of the bedroom with or without prescribed nasal steroid sprays is helpful.

She who bleeds "too often" or "too long" can have her blood checked to see if her blood clots too slowly.

: Bleeding from the nose occurs when a small blood vessel is so close to the surface that it accidentally gets broken. This can happen during nose picking, blowing the nose or just in dry or cold weather. Avoid putting anything in your nose, use a thin layer of vaseline or other protectant ointment if the air is dry and check your medications/supplements for ones that can cause less clotting.

Depends: The treatment depends on the cause for the nosebleeds. Most are from the nasal septum which gets dried up in hot and dry weather. In such case nasal saline spray  or gel 2-4 x daily on the septum may help. If the problem persists, your doc can cauterize the bleeding points. If you have a blood disorder (coagulation disorder), then the solution would be more complex.  Avoid aspirin for now.

Depends on age: In children, the most common cause of nose bleeds is trauma or foreign body (most likely from picking with a finger). In adults, nose bleeds can be caused or prolonged by a number of factors. The most common of which would be blood-thinning medications like coumadin; plavix; Aspirin and trauma. Inherited blood clotting disorders may be a cause as well but are rare and would likely be known by you.
