Symptoms: Strep throat or sore throat?  Sxs of strep throat can include: pain of throat; large, red tonsils with white exudates; small red dots on roof of the mouth; swollen lymph nodes on neck; fever, headache, rash, difficulty swallowing, fatigue or rash.  Perhaps you have a virus. For really sore throat, temp of 104 or above or difficulty breathing - please see your doctor.

Doubtful: If you have confirmed strep throat, the treatment of amoxicillin or azithromycin would protect from rheumatic fever, scarlet fever, etc.  There are other conditions that can cause systemic symptoms of fever and shortness of breath (Lemierre's syndrome). If the process was a viral syndrome e.g mononucleosis (which can cause an exudative tonsillitis) the fatigue, sweats would persist.  See a doctor.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Some people have minimal symptoms with strep as adults & some actively carry it in their throat & never seem to get sick from it. Without a fever, I am reluctant to consider it an infection but when there are both fever & generalized symptoms it is likely not a simple carrier state.

Quickly: You should start to feel better within a day or so. Remember to take all of your antibiotics, or your infection can come back and not respond to future antibiotic treatment.

Accepted Answer

Throat still sore: Since your symptoms are still there despite treatment, it appears that either the strep germ was resistant to the amoxicillin or that a virus (such as mono or CMV) was also present along with the strep. Or maybe both! It will take a visit to your doctor to sort this out.
