why is my middle finger on my left hand numb? what can i do for it?

Not sure?: Possible causes of just one finger being numb include carpal tunnel, pinched nerve in neck, or possible circulation problem.  Carpal tunnel usually makes the thumb, index and middle fingers numb.  A pinched nerve at the c-7 cervical level can cause just the middle finger to be numb, but your neck usally hurts as well.  Raynaud's phenomenon can cause numbness, but fingeris usally pale.

Is it neck level ?: Level of surgery is important ,  possible may be related if it is cervical discectomy , bring to the attention of your doctor  will evaluate if it is related to surgery or not.

Nerve compression: The fact that the pinky and ring finger are affected suggests that a nerve called the ulnar nerve is being compressed. It could be from the position you sleep in. If the numbness goes away when you're up and moving then it is probably not serious. If the numbness doesn't go away or gets worse you should see a doctor to find out what is wrong.

Ulnar Neuropathy: Need to discuss with your doctor, have additional testing done to assess whether there is weakness of the ulnar innervated muscles; a need to determine whether you need translocation surgery.

See a neurologist: The ring finger and thumb are supplied by different nerves.  Pain and burning in more than one nerve could be a sign of neuropathy or radiculopathy.  You should be evaluated by a physician.
