Tube may be plugged: Sometime pe (pressure equalization) tubes fail. When they do return of symptoms is common. Also, pe tubes can be expected to remain in the ear drum for months to years, depending on the type. He should be reevaluated by his ENT doctor.

About 3 weeks.: Even after an antibiotic has gotten rid of the infection, fluid can remaining the middle ear.  This fluid can cause temporary hearing loss and a sensation of fullness.
