Spine or muscle : Sprained muscles can "catch". Spinal motion segments can catch for several reasons. Either muscular or spinal column pains can be "sharp". When in doubt, check it out.

i had a uti last week & took microbid for a week. now this week, i have mid back pain on the right- kidney. had a uti 6 months ago too. any reason?

Pyelonephritis?: Some UTI bacteria are resistant to nitrofurantoin (Microbid). It sounds like your infection might not have been adequately treated and now has ascended to involve the kidney (pyelonephritis). Return to your doctor ASAP. Once successfully treated, speak with your doctor about whether you need evaluation of why you have frequent UTIs and how to prevent them. Good luck!

MIdback pain: Where do you feel the numbness? Where is the mid to you?At the lower end of the rib  cage or between the shoulder blades?I I use the terms "thoracic, " spine with ribs "lumbar" ribs to pelvis "thoracolumbar" where the two join. Thanksfor the question.

Be checked: If the pain has been severe for 2 months, i would certainly encourage you to be seen.  There are multiple causes includingusculoskeletal- such as another broken rib or fractured vertebrae; to more internal causes such as a kidney or gallstone, an aneurysm, or other intra thoracic or intra abdominal problem.  Appropriate exam and testing can usually determine the cause.  Be seen.

Upper UTI: It is possible that right kidney is involved. Contact to your prescriber if you feel did not get any better by now.

Back pain: Your back pain had a mechanical onset and is mechanically worse. Therefore there is a good chance it is not related to a kidney problem. It worse when your breath probably because the breathing movements cause irritation to the muscle. You should start with your general doctor , who may send you to physical therapy or chiropractic care.   Nurofen (ibuprofen) has side effects and benefits
