i have isb (c&d) here lately it is only c. i take benefiber (cant take metamucil) and 2 dulcolax, but if i take the 2, i wind up with awful diarrhea, like you go before you make it to the toilet for abou 8-12 hours. is there anything else i can take?

: If you have not tried PEG (miralax, an OTC laxative), you should, you can easily adjust the dose ad lib. If miralax does not work, you need med by prescription such as lubiprostone or linaclotide and plecanatide .

Stringy stool: Stringy stool is a symptom with many causes, benign and not so benign. Metamucil itself doesn't usually cause stringy stool, but it may have unmasked this symptom. If it is pencil like and persists more than two weeks it may be a sign of luminal (phenobarbital) obstruction. Flat ribbon like stools can be seen in irritable bowel syndrome. If it persists, it should be evaluated further by your doctor.
