Accepted Answer

Yes: It is usually worse where skin is thinner such as earlobes and around the neck but can occur wherever the metal has contact with the skin. Rings, watchbands, earrings, necklaces and snaps are often culprits. Carry change in a pants pocket can also result in a rash. The culprit is usually nickel.

Accepted Answer

That depends...: I have seen some patients developing swelling of the along with hives after a tattoo.  If you are allergic to nickel and the instrument for application is of nickel, it is possible to get an allergy to tattoos. Check to see about the type of tools the technicians use.

Accepted Answer

Yes: You can get a patch test by an allergist that can determine if you're allergic to different things. The most common is a nickel allergy. It can easily be diagnosed by just your history and skin reaction to the offending agent.

what can i put on my belt buckles and buttons because of a nickel metal allergy?

Accepted Answer

Wax: Avoidance is the best thing, but if that is your favorite belt, try using paraffin wax on it, and it may create a barrier to help prevent problems.  Keep in mind that it will have to be reapplied, like the wax on your car.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Get pierced with a needle made with something other than the metal to which you are allergic, and always wear a ring/stud that you can tolerate. The most common metal allergy i see is nickel, and there are many other options available. Now if you are allergic to surgical stainless steel you might have a bit more difficulty finding something you can use.

Tough to Dx: Tough to DX rashes over the computer.  Belly buttons are common areas for wet/moist rashes to occur including fungal infections to psoriasis like rashes.  You should see a dr, best a dermatologist (skin specialist) to properly DX the rash and get the best treatment.  Best wishes.

is it possible to sensitive yourself to metal allergy using your prosthetic limb?

Nickel allergy: Contact dermatitis to metals that contain nickel or cobalt can develop at any time.  Any item that contacts your skin directly and contains nickel can 'sensitize" your immune system to nickel and the result is rash at the site where your skin contacts nickel in the future.

URTICARIA?: Generalized rash which became so itchy can be urticaria or allergic dermatitis. Take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) 25 or 50 mg. And see md . You might need more rx.

i am allergic to all metals but titanium. it causes a skin reaction of redness and swelling. i was debating getting a tattoo. can i with this allergy?

Would not advise it: it may be wise you're not to do the tattoo. If you wish to pursue your choice you need to see a dermatologist who can skin test you to see exactly what metals you may be allergic to. A lot of people are allergic to nickel, but a dermatologist can clarify this.

i have had pain & some swelling in my knee & lower leg since my replace. w/ titanium knee 3 yrs ago.  r there other metals in it that causes allergy?

Metal knee allergies: I have had pain &amp; some swelling in my knee &amp; lower leg since my replace. w/ titanium knee 3 yrs ago. R there other metals in it that causes allergy? ANS: I would look up the replacement you had and see what they report. Discuss with your Dr. who did implant to see what others have experienced.
