Q: 1 melanoma 0.7mm + 1 nevoid melanoma 1 4mm + 2 insitu removed last 7 years and will be having two more moles removed soon, what is my prognosis?

Why the next surgery: 2 "moles" to be removed? Did the DR say WHY? Do they have certain features suggesting melanoma? If the lab finds BENIGN lesions, then you are done, nothing to worry about. If there is melanoma, it will be staged. The prognosis depends on the stage. You need to be thoroughly familiar with the features to look for as suggesting biopsy for melanoma.

Q: why does basal cell carcinoma have better prognosis than malignant melanoma?

Ability to travel: Basal cell carcinoma usually is limited to the site of disease. While it is possible for basal cell to metastasize it is very rare. In contrast melanoma travels through the lymphatic system and can form tumors in any location of the body.

Q: what is the prognosis of spindle cell melanoma t4 lesion on the scalp?other than the surgery, what other treatments have been successful?

Micro: surgery is the only "curative" treatment! This may be accompanied by Radiation of draining lymph nodes. IMMUNOTHERAPY is "ijn the works" but thus far does not seem to "add" life years! Hope this is helpful/Good Luck! Dr Z

Cell division: All dividing cells have the potential to have an error of division leading to cancer. Sun damages the skin cells increasing the rate of cellular division and therefore increasing the chance of an error causing cancer. So a few melanomas will occur even though no light exposure has occurred. Excellent example: melanoma of the meningeal lining of the brain - no light exposure there.

Nodular Melanoma: At the earliest detection and treatment nodular melanoma may have a cure rate of 95%. People should remember that not all melanoma develops in a changing mole. It may also appear from a previous lesion and may look like an awkward scar or cyst. It may also appear like a non-healing bruise or nail streak.

: Brain metastases from Melanoma are fairly common. These come in varied forms in terms of the number and the the size of metastatic tumors. The survival is influenced by the tumor load. Q: i have a thin black line on my right thumbnail. its been there a few weeks. its right down the middle from cuticle to the tip. could something other than melanoma cause this? i dont recall injuring it.

Need more info: In general  in lost 10 years with new chemo previous decimal prognosis is now  getting better , the way you describe , may have satellite metastasis . On the skin , is not a good sign , speak to your oncologist
