i had a sudden mole show up on my smallest toe, i'm not sure how long it's been there but i would say pretty recently. within a few months.  i have pictures of it.  problem is i can't see a dermatologist around here for at least a month or more.... is there anything i can do in the meantime?  my dad has/still has melanoma spots show up all the time so it is concerning to me.  brown center slightly raised bumpy area in it/tanish red outside of that very irregular border.

Concerning lesion: One possibility could be high resolution virtual medicine  consultation with a dermatologist. That is something that has been done for many years with success. However, if a biopsy was needed, you would still need to eventually be seen in person.

Could be: It could be, particularly if it is asymmetrical in its color distribution, has irregular border, has color variation, and a diameter larger than a pencil eraser.  Get it checked out if it concerns you; a good dermatologist can suggest if this really needs to be biopsied or removed.

Biopsy it: The only way to tell for certain is to biopsy it ie cut a piece of it out if not the entire lesion and have it examined by a pathologist.

Don't self-diagnose: Ask a doctor - it's the best way to not develop anxiety about it. Whatever someone tells you without seeing it in real-life will leave you wondering if it's true. So, have it seen in real-life. If the news is good, you'll be able to relax. If it leads to biopsy, you'll either relax with good news or get a good early start on treatment. Drs. 25%: Precise answer unknown. We do not remove melanocytic nevi (moles) to prevent melanoma. We remove them when they show features suspicious of early melanoma. The microscopic exam is the way to best define them. You take "omega 3 fats" (fish oil). The latest studies indicate that this is no benefit. You take aspirin. There is some evidence that this reduces the risk of skin cancers, including melanom

See dermatologist: You should see a dermatologist immediately. They would tell you what they think it is. They usually would do a biopsy and if proven to be a melanoma- would do a wide resection with negative margins and also many times would do  lymph node evaluation/sentinel lymph node biopsy as indicated. See your dermatologist now and go from there.

See dermatologist: Irregular border and itching are 2 reasons to have a mole examined by a dermatologist. Any change in the appearance of a mole and/ or the onset of itching, pain, bleeding warrants a visit to the dermatologist. These warning signs for melanoma; diagnosis is made with biopsy.
