Reaction: I would first start with a dermatologist who might have an idea if this is an allergic reaction or something totally different. They might even want to biopsy.

Ibuprofen: It is a good anti-inflammatory and anti-pyretic (reduces temp). Mefenamic acid is good for reducing pain and swelling for peri-menstrual complaints and possibly migraines.It is not recommended for a child.

FDA package insert.: In the US, the FDA mandates that each prescription be dispensed with a "package insert" describing the medication's dosing, uses, side effects, &amp; contraindications. According to that insert, patients should have told their doctor about hypertension before taking Mefenamate. If you did, it should be OK to take. If you stop/start any meds, tell your doctor (again) that you're taking Mefenamate. GL.

Making a comeback: Popular might be a stretch.  It is an older medication commonly used for cramping with periods.  For awhile it was difficult to find in a lot of pharmacies, but is now more available.

Reliable lab?: It should be safe. National laws differ and there are greedy folk who'd break the law anyway. But, trust has a beneficial role - so if the lab is a licensed entity - yes you should be safe. I hope you do well.

I know: of no reasons why not except Mefanamic  acid along with other NSAIDS is not of much use in treating pain from a UTI !

Very unwise move: Do not combine NSAIDs because of the significant increase for serious GI and kidney toxicities. Combining pain meds is also a dangerous idea. What is the source of the pain? If it is musculoskeletal, see a rheumatologist and do not self medicate.

Inform doc: While there is no significant drug-drug interaction between the above mentioned drugs and many times antibiotics and antiinflammatories are used together in infections, informing your doc should only help in case pain remains uncontrolled. Side effects to mefenamic acid still apply.
