VCF: Presumably you had an accident. Vcf implies a stable fracture, so brace is usually not needed while lying down. I prefer my patients to lie on the stomach if at all possible, as this helps to minimize further collapse and even correct any deformity from the fracture. If this is not tolerable, then whatever is comfortable. No harm in position except flexion (too much pillow, or head up position).

Very good: If the patient is of sufficient age- such as greater than 50 although not all patients need to be this age, it is a minimally invasive way to treat a vertebral fracture with cement and have quick relief of pain.  Of course, since i'm a conservative dr., i like to let the compression fractures heal in a brace without being invasive.

Often times, wearing a brace and avoiding strenuous activities will allow a compression fracture to heal in younger patients. It usually takes 3 months to heal.
