Not common: This is not a common injury.  Knowing the cause would help.  Most nerve injuries will heal with time.  This nerve provides both muscular control and sensation.  If there is no weakness of the muscles that close your legs then that is a good sign.  Pain should improve with time and meds to control neuropathic pain.  This pain may ultimately turn to numbness in the same area.
