Risk for future baby: Rhogam is supposed to prevent you from developing anti d antibodies that could cause serious problems for future babies/fetuses. Those problems include: anemia, jaundice, hydrops fetalis, death. This risk is greater if we know for sure that product of current pregnancy had blood type rh positive and there was significant transfer of fetal blood into your body. You should discuss it with your doc.

No mercury in Rhogam: April 16, 2001, the FDA approved production of RhoGAM without thimerosal and the company agreed to distribute only product without the preservative.  ( source: FDA.gov)

After delivery: In this is your first Rh positive baby and you are Rh negative, Rhogam is customarily given after the delivery and assurance that the baby has a Rh positive blood type to prevent you from forming antibodies for your next Rh positive baby during pregnancy which can be harmful to the fetus.

Not usually: The Rho-gam is an immune antibody against Rh. The only was it would show is if you tested specifically for anti-Rh antibodies.

Sure.: The blood bank will do antibody testing on the blood you donate and give it to the appropriate recipient - Rhogam does not preclude you from donating.

Yes.: There is only a small chance of having bleeding enough to cause isoimmunization (your body forming antibodies to your baby's rh positive blood) with an amniocentesis, but if it were to happen, the consequences for future pregnancies could be devastating.  So we do recommend that rh negative women get Rhogam after amniocentesis.

Yes: That is my understanding.It helps prevent moms from developing anti rh + antibodies that might injure the fetus.

daughter was given rhogam shot with no labs done first will everything be ok if she did not need it??

No blood test: for RHOGAM,  All you need is that mom has blood type with negative rhesus antigen  (like A negative) and baby has positive (like A Pos)
I am sure they did that during pregnancy /birth

had 2 miscarriages since my last rhogam shot think i may be preg again do i need the shot or is it too late?

Accepted Answer

Probably not: You should be evaluated for the need for Rhogam anytime you bleed during a pregnancy.  At this time, you need to have a test for Rh antibodies that is standard with your first OB labs.  If it is negative, you would only need Rhogam in early pregnancy if you bleed.  You would then get a Rhogam shot at about 28 weeks routinely.  See your OB.
