Viral or  bacterial: It depends on the cause. If it suspected viral infection- there is no treatment, it will resolve on its own. If it believed to be bacterial, your primary doctor will most likely prescribe antibiotics for you.

Ear discharge: If you finished you antibiotics as recommended,  even no pain but still with purulant  ear discharge  you need to go back to your 1ry care physician or ENT,  that means perforation of your ear drum &amp; if not treated property  it can become chronic  &amp; can affect your  hearing. Ear drum rupture: Your pain is gone because your ear drum has likely ruptured by what you have described, releasing the pressure behind it.  Otitis media should not cause drainage from the ear otherwise.  You should go back to your doctor for further treatment.  Good luck!

: Typically recurrent otitis media can indicate a eustacian tube dysfunction. Try using hypertonic nasal saline washes daily (2 packets of salt solution to one bottle of warm filtered/purified water). Consulting an Ear, Nose, Throat (ENT) Dr for a more thorough exam may offer other options including tympanic membrane tubes or other ways to keep the middle ear drained.

hello, i've had a stuffy ear for a week, yesterday i was diagnosed with otitis media and prescribed amoxicillin for 7 days. the stuffiness stopped before i took the medicine this morning and i could regularly pop my ears. should i fly this monday?

Not needed: In general,  fluid behind the ear drum by itself doesn't need an "antiseptic" or antibiotic. If the fluid is infected that is a different story and antibiotics can be helpful. If fluid formed because of a nasal or sinus infection then again an antibiotic can help. Most antibiotics in common use such as amoxil, augmentin, ceftin, (cefuroxime) Bactrim etc... Are helpful.

Confusing question: I am not aware of any antiseptic drugs used in the treatment of otitis media. However, we do use antibiotics.Those used vary by the age of the patient, the germ expected, personal allergy history and other factors derived by an office visit.Your pcp can sort this out. Neurontin (gabapentin): Neurontin (gabapentin) is an excellent medication for nerve pain related to the tooth extraction. The dosage of 300 mg three times a day is high for people not used to taking neurontin and you may feel drowsy and unbalanced. It is a safe drug and allergic reactions are uncommon. Some people will develop swelling in the extremities and weight gain over a few weeks of taking the medication.

That space is like a cave in the skull, with the ear drum on one wall, a drain tube (eustacion tube) in the floor & another wall composed by the skull & the ear nerve. The walls make mucous which normally drains but can be trapped. Germs can feed on the trapped mucous & cause infection.
