New Hep C drugs: There are 2 new (just over 1 year on the market) drugs known as protease inhibitors. Victrelis (boceprevir) is one and Incivek is the other. These are only approved for treatment of genotype 1 and either must still be used in conjunction with pegalated interferon and ribavirin. There is a 2nd gen protease inhibitor and a polymerase inhibitor currently in development.

in 2011 i was in a study(gs-us-248-0120 ) for hep c. drugs were tegobuvir, gs5885, gs9451 & ribo. i failed week 2. am i now resistant to inhibitors?

Probably not: I would certainly get evaluated again by a gastroenterologist, and hopefully start with the new medication combination of sovaldi, Ribavirin and peg-interferon for 12 weeks.  &gt;90%  "cure" rate.

: Chronic hep c is a threat to cause cirrhosis and cancer of the liver if left untreated. Some infected people clear the virus naturally after 6 months. The goal is to have none of the virus in your system. A hepatologist or gastroenterologist is best to evaluate and advise you about your current status or need for treatment. Appropriate tests will be ordered.

What drug was tested: Hep C per se should not give a false positive drug test, however, it begs the question, how did you get Hep C? Were you abusing intravenous drugs?
If you have Hep C, get treatment as it is mostly curable now.

on triple drug tx for hep c. at wk 32 (28 with victrelis). virus cleared by wk 8. lots of side fx. going off at wk 36. 4th tx for hep c. safe to quit?

Ask your Hepatologis: This question is best answered by your hepatologist or whoever is prescribing your hep c regimen. Look at it this way, if you quit too soon as suggested by someone else who isn't managing your program, who's going to take responsibility for return of the virus? I suspect that your hepatologist would just as soon turn over your care to that person while saying "i told you so".

c. and i am very terrified..but i have taken blood test and my numbers are high..but not to high to what they are suppose to be...what are some good over the counter drugs...and foods that can help me?

: There are excellent and effective treatments for Hep C. See a doctor and ask about treatment. Many doctor will not treat someone who is at risk of re infection like someone who is taking drugs.

Thyroid tests: There are several different types of thyroid blood tests. Liver disease may affect some of them. Your md will make sure to use the thyroid blood tests that are unaffected by abnormalities in globulins produced by liver disease. If you can't get the desired thyroid results from your therapy, consult a thyroidologist.

can you get hep c through unprotected sex? my ex told me he had it after we got done. when we were dating i'm assuming he had it since he shot up drugs but i want to make sure i don't have it!!!

Low risk, get tested: As I answered your other question, you are at little or no risk of hepatitis C from your former partner. It't not sexually transmitted nearly as often as some people say. To the extent you were at risk from him, it was more because of the possiblity of blood exposure than sex. But to be certain, have a test. If you have not otherwise been at risk for hep C, you can expect a negative result.
