i've allergies to tryptans and migraine meds. fioricent is the only migraine med that didn't cause a reaction, but it doesn't work. any other options?

Yes : There are several but you should discuss it with a neurologist because they need monitoring and have specific side effects (like all medicines). Two other possibilities are topamax (topiramate) and depakote.

Most are: Fioricet may induce drowsiness which may be worsened by sedating antihistamine such as Benadryl.  Otherwise I don't see much problem with drug interaction with other allergy meds.

fioricet with codeine (acetaminophen butalbital caffeine and codeine) on drug test, will i pass?

No: it contains, obviously, codeine which will show up as an opiate (and is also metabolized into morphine). It also contains a barbiturate, bultalbital, which will also show up as positive. I would worry more about using drugs when you are subject to drug testing, and the level of severity of your drug problem, as you do about getting caught.

i have been taking fioricet, 2 pills each morning for around 4 years for migraines, i want to stop taking the medicine. i will talk to my doctor, but how bad should i expect the withdrawals to be? i have bad anxiety?

: I think after 4 years of taking this medication daily &amp; in view of your chronic anxiety your MD will have to guide you through a very slow taper off fioricet.  I feel you will also require treatment for chronic anxiety, preferably by a psychiatrist. However, your physician, who knows your history &amp; current status, is best to advise you.

Stretch? : Unfortunately Fioricet (acetaminophen butalbital and caffeine) will likely worsen your headache in the long term. Both tension headache and back pain may have identifiable underlying causes which should be evaluated for so a better treatment plan can be designed. Non-medicinal or alternative therapies are likely to help treat both of your conditions and prevent secondary problems from medication use.

There is interaction: According to FDA there is drug interaction and it depends on how long you are going to take them together.Discuss with your Doctor or pharmacist before you take them together

Yes, but wean down: Yes, the Fioricet will stop headaches that occur, while the topamax (topiramate) will keep them from coming on in the first place.  That being said, if you are still using the Fioricet on a regular basis, you should definitely look into alternative medications- Fioricet has been shown to greatly increase the risk of medication overuse headache, which is very difficulty to treat.

Why ?: If there is a pain problem , what is the cause of the pain and treat the cause so that it will go away. 
Pain medication blocks symptoms and too much can cause more problems 

you need another opinion as to what is the cause of your problems and getting them resolved.

Go to hospital.: That’s way too much of everything.  You need to be under medical supervision in an emergency department.  And call someone you know to be with you.

can i take 5mg of ambien (zolpidem) and fioricet (without codeine) together?

Accepted Answer

Risky combination: Fioricet is a barbiturate, and large doses can interfere with breathing.  Ambien (zolpidem) plus Fioricet causes marked drowsiness. Putting all together, you could sleep so soundly that there could be risk of aspiration, but if you have any sleep apnea, respiratory drive might be substantially suppressed.  Discuss this with your doctor.
