As long as needed: The coma used in medical situations is due to risk of injury while fighting a ventilator, or supporting a dire condition.  
When the medical situation is stable, sedation is reversed.  
It is a preventive treatment to improve outcomes, but has risks in managing nutrition and loss of strength for the duration of bed rest. Ask questions of the doctors and nurses and maintain hope.

This is really like surgical anesthesia, and done in a controlled setting.With close monitoring. Your statement of a deep coma, really doesn't follow. If the patient had coma persisting after the induced coma were stopped, it would be from the initial injury.

As long as it needs: People put into medically induced comas are left in them as long as they need maximal brain rest. Depending on the reason, this may be hours or it can be weeks - in rare cases even longer. They are "taken out" by gradually reducing the medications used to induce the coma. This too can take hours, days or longer. They just don't stop them and the person "pops up" awake, so you really can't be there

Depends: It is important to know if this had been true prior to the illness onset.  If not present prior the possibility is high the pt has had some intracranial catastrophe such as brain bleed.  The unequal pupils suggest a bleed or other intracranial event. Need to speak to the neurologist. If not under the care of neuro get a consult.

There are a: Substantial number of symptoms that incudle stiff joints, disorientation, headache, blurred vision, hunger or nausea, etc.  Good news is those problems at least pass.  Those associated with the reason for the induced coma may or may not depending upon the problem.

Many/nurse's list: It runs from how deep the coma is or the paralytic if being used, how well the ventilator and the patient are synchronized, all the vital signs, heart rate and rhythm, temp, bp, saturation, position in bed, urinating, bowel sounds, heart sounds, breath sounds. Ask the nurse and there will be a long list.

Unlikely: Patients with existing brain injury are placed in medically induced comas to allow the brain to rest and to decrease intracranial pressure. The medications used for induction are closely monitored in am ICU and are unlikely to cause brain damage themselves.
