Yes: Mederma is safe to use after accutane.  Its effectiveness has not been proven, whereas time will reduce redness.

Accepted Answer

Mederma: No good scientific studies show benefit from mederma. I don't recommend it to my patients. Redness from inflammation or scar healing will go away on its own as long as the source of inflammation is gone. I recommend sun block for acute redness to prevent permanent discoloration. Bleaching creams or lasers can be used for chronic discoloration. Best to ask your dermatologist or plastic surgeon.

No: In my practice, i prefer peche for redness and biocorneum, which is a silicone based cream with spf.

i had a cold sore scab fell off 2 weeks ago and the area is still red and wont go away. what would help with the redness? maybe applying vitamin e or mederma? is it still contagious?

Plan. : No, this is not contagious now. Yes, you can use Vitamin E  and 
 Menderma and cortisone 10 to slowly reduce redness. But it takes few weeks up to month to disappear.

Not much research: There is very little good research to support the use of Mederma. See a dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon.

Mederma for scars: Mederma is an over-the-counter medication that is indicated for the use of scar reduction.  It should not be used to treat any other dermatologic conditions.  It would be useful to visit your doctor for assessment of your condition.

Depends on where...: Hi there, to adequately answer your question I would need a couple more pieces of information.  (1) where exactly is the red spot?  By that I mean is it on the red smooth "inner" part of the lip or is it on skin on the "outer" part of the lip?  (2) how long ago did the cold sore go away?  Mederma can work if it is on the outside, but not inside the lip.
