I'd consider a boost: If you were born at that time, it would not have been common for you to get a second dose of MMR.That practice was not common until the 90's. Given the present outbreaks in the US, it would be prudent for anyone who did not have the disease and was born before the mid 90"s to consider a MMR booster.

Probably: It is routinely given at a year or later in the USA, but likely done earlier in SA due to the local prevalence of unimmunized populations or periodic measles cases. I would contact the kids doc for their input based on local conditions, but in the long term it could be done that way.

could you tell me what are chances of experiencing side effects of a measles vaccine on adults?

1 side effect higher: Children and adults have the same possible side effects of fever, rash, & swollen lymph nodes. One difference: children have at 1% incidence of potential side effect of painful stiff joints but this side effect has a  much higher rate of up to 25% in adults, & more often in women than men. Actual joint swelling is  rare in children but occurs in up to 10% adults. It is reversible in all groups.

No: A child should get a measles vaccine (MMR = measles, mumps, rubella vaccine) once after his first birthday, and a second time after his 4th birthday or at age 4-5 years. Some children get an extra dose of measles vaccine BEFORE their first birthdays, but that extra dose is for extra protection and does not count towards the future 2 doses. Thus, some kids have 3 total doses.

Reports: There is some information regarding the MMR vaccine which is available. There is not enough information to utilize the MMR vaccine as a public health measure against COVID 19.  A flu vaccine is recommended and a COVID 19 vaccine as available. Watch for signs of cough, fever and shortness of breath.

Measles vaccine: The measles part of the vaccine often doesn't cause side effects prior to 7-10 days after the vaccine, and this is usually fever and a rash. If this fever is atypical, she should see her MD to see if there is another cause.

I wouldn't : At your listed age only 1 dose of vaccine was usually given which only protected 85% of the population. By the mid 90's 2 doses at least a month apart was standard (95% protected). I would forgo blood tests &amp; just get an MMR (only measles preparation available in US) unless you knew for sure you had measles as a kid. Transient joint discomfort is a common side effect, but that is what I would do.

Uncertain: It is not entirely clear what the portal of entry of the virus is, even though it appears to gain entry via the upper respiratory tract.  It may get into the fetus by infected cells carried through the placenta, but this, to my knowledge, is not entirely clear.

Probably not measles: Bell Palsy may be caused by herpes, chicken pox virus, Lyme disease, syphilis, Epstein-Barr virus, cytomegalovirus, human immunodeficiency virus [HIV], common cold viruses, or mycoplasma.  It can also be caused by inflammation alone, or small blood vessel problems from diabetes or high blood pressure.

Some do: Measles vaccine is thought to provide lifetime protection for most, but after >20 years of use it was evident that some either did develop protection or it was weakened for some & 2 doses, one at a year or more and one at 4-5 became the routine.Recently, autism fears after fake research led to many cases of measles in immunized kids that were infected by exposure to wild measles in unimmunized kid.
