Infectious diseaseMD: Is it cultured MRSA or regular staph. You should speak to an infectious disease md for treatment. Do you scratch yourself? Itch? Possibly at night? You may have MRSA under the nails and seeding the skin. 
Normlly you treat MRSA and it resolves you have to culture it find out what it is sensitive to and use those antibiotics. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ds, and zyvox is made specifically for mrsa
culture your nose too.

Rash: Not all rashes are caused by staph, some rashes are not caused by infection at all  some may be from a virus, rashes  that are painful or have blister like lesions can be from herpes, shingles etc...

Possibly contributed: Staph infections are resistant to amoxicillin. It is possible that Amoxicillin eliminated some "good bacteria" and that the loss f these "good bacteria" may have allowed the staph infection to develop.

The : The short answer here is you need to be tested for herpes.  In addition, if you get a "boil" have a herpes culture done on the actual lesion. 
As far as your boyfriend is concerned, he may have tested positive for hsv 2, however it is possible that he never had a lesion before. He was likely exposed to it at some point in his life.

Check the nose: Using lotion on your face should not be a problem after a staph infection.  However, you may want your doctor to check and see if you are colonized by the staph bacteria in your nostrils.  This can be done by simply doing a culture from the nostrils.  If it is positive, then treating the bacteria there with a topical ointment may help keep you from getting another infection.

Antibiotic.: If there's truly a staph infection on your face, a topical or oral antibiotic would be what you need to get rid of it the quickest.  A combination of oral and topical antibiotic would be even better.

Staph infection: As long as you are being treated, you can continue to play football if you feel up to it.  You should keep the wound clean and covered during play.
