i know somebody who smokes marijuana on a daily basis this person is dear to me. he is almost bipolar and he is always lashing out and yelling. help?

Anger management: Does he have 4 teenage kids by any chance who think they know it all??  LOL!  Anyways, since plenty of people don't smoke marijuana and still yell and lash out a lot I'm not sure that's a factor.  When you say he's ALMOST bipolar..I'm not sure what you mean....how much farther does he have to go to get there? If your friend is aware of this behavior as a problem- is he willing to talk about it?

bipolar meds have so many side effects. wouldn't it be better 2 smoke marijuana as bi polar people tell me they feel better than the meds? is it harmful

DONT THINK SO: I have no idea what the long term effects are - possibly including psychosis. The goal should be to have as stable a life as possible and i doubt that pot will do that.
Properly balanced meds and real support can help a whole lot. 
Very hard to live a productive life by being happy and out of it - and depressive and manic phases are most likely to recur anyway.
Not the best solution.

Addiction: That is your brain and the disease of addition telling you this.  If you cannot stop on your own, then asking your family doctor for help is a great place to start.  You very well may need to be in treatment for a bit to get past the withdrawals and to begin to learn how to live clean. It is very much a real possibility and not something that is impossible. I wish you well.

Bipolar and MJ: Any person with diagnosed bipolar disorder needs to practice solid self-care: regular sleep, exercise, healthy food, compliance with prescribed medications, and avoidance of substance abuse including alcohol.  Using recreational substances invites destabilization of neurobehavioral status and possible shift into depression or mania.  This includes marijuana.  Mj can cause hallucinations too.

I : I would be very concerned about using marijuana if you have bipolar ii disorder.  One of the main reasons for bipolar patients not getting well is abuse of alcohol or illicit drugs.   Contrary to popular opinion, marijuana can be very mood altering- especially if you already have a serious psychiatric illness. Even a person without  bipolar ii disorder, could develop hallucinations, paranoia, delusions, ilusions, psychosis, out of body experiences and a wide variety of other very unpleasant effects.  Medical marijuana is only prescribed for specific conditions in most states. Medical marijuana is only legal in 15 states plus the district of columbia right now. Seeking suicide: The same thing that could cause someone who is not bipolar to commit suicide. Having a problem and being unable to see any solutions other than death. Despair. Deep emotional or physical pain. Loss of hope.

Both: A person with bipolar is most likely to commit suicide during a depressive episode. During a manic episode, someone is more likely to die from physical exhaustion or from doing something irrational.

Having relatives: that have committed suicide can provide a role model for taking one's life. It can make it seem like suicide is a viable option. Having bipolar disorder increases risk for suicide. If you have frequent suicidal thoughts - it is really important that you get good treatment. Suicide is a choice - it is an option that you don't need to chose. Learn good options to deal w your bipolar DO. Take care.

May need to go to ED: It sounds like you are really struggling.  Is your doctor aware of the severity of your symptoms? You may need a higher level of care if you are not seeing improvement. Recommend contacting your doctor ASAP to determine whether intensive outpatient,  a partial hospital program,  or possibly inpatient treatment may be warranted.. Go to ED if symptoms worsen.
