has anyone ever got lung cancer from smoking marijuana and never smoking tobacco? i cant find any documented cases no matter how hard i look

Accepted Answer

Marijuana contains: carcinogens, some in comparably higher levels than in cigarettes, so there is a theoretical risk.  However, clinical studies have failed to demonstrate a clear association with lung cancer.

No smoking gun: In individual patients, it is hard to pinpoint which carcinogenic exposure (if any) caused their cancer. Carcinogens usually don't leave a telltale sign on the cancer cell itself. We must then rely on statistical inferences from studies of large groups of people. Though less well studied than tobacco, studies estimate the risk of lung cancer is 2x higher in pot smokers. Car crashes also go up ~4x.

is it true that multivitamins should be avoided in current and former smokers due to elevated lung cancer risk. i quit smoking tobacco 16 yrs ago. i use medical marijuana, mostly by vape, that works well for nerve pain from cervical stenosis?

: I am confused with the question. Multivitamins should have little to do with smoking. Vaping medical marijuana and vitamins also do not clash.

been smoking marijuana & tobacco since a decade now.since last year after smoking im spitting black phlegm.it started with small specks and now its full blown chunks. got a chest x-ray , the dr said my chest looks fine.please advice im worried?

Stop smoking: Your worries are legitimate and best would be to stop smoking at least for a trial. If your sputum/secretions clear up you will know what you have to do. Chest X-rays have limited resolution and do not rule out chronic bronchitis among many other lung conditions.

See below: It will probably have fewer pulmonary consequences.  Is it safe?  It will still lead to cognitive impairment for 24 hrs after use, reduction of testosterone, withdrawal with regular use which may exacerbate depression and anxiety.  What do you mean by safe?

i'm a light smoker of both cannabis and tobacco. recently after smoking about 2 cigarettes a dull lingering chest pain occured and seems to not subside. it's more uncomfortable than painful. is this a cause for concern and further diagnosis?

Pulmonary testing: Smoking has multiple adverse health effects, including obstructive lung disease. The best next step is to try to quit. There are many programs available online to help you to quite smoking. Your symptoms may be related to obstructive lung disease. Please have a pulmonary function test and possibly also a chest image, after seeing your PCP.

No: A difficult question politically, but an easy one medically.  Although marijuana is not without risks - the risk of tobacco smoking are far greater!

Both dangerous: Both are dangerous. Marijuana smoke has more carcinogens in it than regular cigarettes do, and people usually inhale and hold the smoke longer with it too. So exposure is very significant -- plus the unspecified additives and possible pesticides that no one really checks for. Alternatively, nicotine is highly addictive, and people usually smoke more regular cigarettes, more often.  Neither is good.

Tobacco: It has been intensely studied, but the lack of studies does not mean there is no risk to inhaling weed, the risk is just less well known and less well proven. The demonizing of marijuana as an 'entry drug' may be true in those susceptible, but it also has led to difficulties studying its effects, .

No surprise: Are you surprised if i say they all affect reproductive health in a  bad way. Mild or even moderate alcohol use may have a negligible effect, but tobacco and marijuana are definitely harmful: the more you use, the worse the problem.
