The person knows that but engages in the behavior anyway, because they are addicted. It is all about the consequences. Is a person missing work or school or spending too much money or getting in trouble with the law? Cannabis use can lead to addiction, especially with regular use.

No: Marijuana use can be addictive and usually depends on years of use and amount used at each time it is smoked. It has similar addictive properties to tobacco use but it is considered less addictive than tobacco users. The smoke from mairjuana contains similar toxic substance to tobacco. Overall, we can say that marijuana is less addictive than cigarettes smoking.

Strange world: Stoners have much less tendency to impulsive or simply mean violence than do drinkers, and do not have the cravings that drive crime in opiate, meth, or Cocaine addicts. But for whatever reason, cannabis is illegal; using it gets one involved with other lawbreakers. I believe generally in obeying laws even when i may disagree, and find life has much too much to offer to want to be goofy. Peace.

You haven't looked: Marijuana dependency (addiction) is a diagnostic term used by both the DSM in the US, and the World Health Organization guidelines elsewhere. You are on medications that indicate either a bipolar diagnosis or some form of thought disorder (schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder etc.). Marijuana is particularly bad for you, and at your age affects your ability to learn, remember and intelligence.

 : Your worry is a good sign. Sure vapor is "better" than "smoke" but drugs like nicotine and cannabis are at best habit forming and at worse addicting. NO DRUG in excess is healthy!!  Why take chances???

"they're" wrong: Mj certainly causes dependence. It just takes a long time for symptoms to appear since mj has a 4 week half life.  Most common withdrawal symptoms are depression, irritability, anger, frustration intolerance, and oppositionality. If you're having withdrawal from mj, see your doctor for help.

All forms of marijuana are mind altering and changes how the brain works. Perceptions and thoughts can be disturbed. Marijuana use is linked to depression, anxiety, suicidal thought and an increase in psychosis.

People who smoke marijanua are at higher risk for depression, poor coordination, impaired judgement, increased heart rate and heart attack and cancer.

Also, people who smoke marijuana may also smoke cigarettes or do other drugs which greatly increase their risk of breathing problems and cancer.

It has been found to be addictive and is considered a 'gateway' drug for other habit producing drugs as users often go on to abuse other illegal drugs such as narcotic pills, cocaine, crack, etc.

I look forward to it: More states are (hopefully) considering the legalization of medical marijuana. It seems to be true (as you say) that it is far superior to opiate pain medication. It has further benefits beyond pain management too, but research has been almost impossible to do so far.  I'm sure there will be problems - everything humans do has problems - but it will be an improvement, imho.

i am aware there is no safe amount of alcohol and even a glass every few days co tributes to cancer risk.  what about edible marijuana?  (not smoked)???  it seems less likely to be addictive and way less health risks as well with occasional use???
