Allergies likely: Even normal children have a significant number of colds once they start attending day care. The most common condition linked to increase number of respiratory infections is not well controlled allergic disease. Less likely are abnormal architecture of face bones (e.g. High palate), and even less common are immunology and other genetic defects such as cystic fibrosis. Medical evaluation recommended.

How did it happen: First of all how old is hte child? You need to make sure the child had no access to medications unless it is under supervison. And yes you ned to talk to the pediatrican to handle it if already addicted..

None: These are no longer recommeded for children as the risk of the meds is greater than any benefit.  I recommend for my patients just nasal saline spray, tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen, and plenty of liquids.

Cold / flu meds: Sounds like viral or seasonal allergies.  Antibiotics not likely helpful.  Over the counter cold meds may help, but ask your pediatrician.

Not unsual: A child over age six months who is smiling a little, well-hydrated and playing a little rarely needs to go the doctor.

No: Asthma means that he wheezes audibly beause of narrowing of the broncdhial tubes. Lots of colds and coughs in my experience almost certainly related to "junk" diet. Please see my blog "oxygen the spark of life" that you can google.

Fluids, rest: The average cold lasts 2-3 weeks, with the worst symptoms occurring in the first 5-7 days. There is no treatment that changes this and makes a cold go away sooner. To make your child more comfortable, push fluids (preferably water and juice), run a vaporizer and encourage them to rest. Use Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen for body aches, but not for fever below 103. Call if you have questions.

None that I know of.: Cold usually is self-limited . Last for a few days. No accompanying symptoms?  No fever?
Rest, lots of fluids.  How many months pregnant?

YES,: If ice cold liquid makes your child cough, then avoid giving. 

Fluid at normal temperature always better for the kids.
